Tact switch question...

Stupid question...

Can I use the tact switches with 4 terminals on the bottom to rewire a controller in stead of just 2. I can only assume that two of the posts arent used when wiring them up, and you would solder the other two posts just to support the switch in the board.

no there's a pair that turn off when you press the button and a pair that turn on. use a multimeter to find out which ones are on when you press it and use those
EDIT: or maybe not. i think i heard it somewhere though...

Usually with a tact switch, if you turn it thus:

 | O |
-|___|-

The 2 upper leads always connect to each other, and the 2 lower leads also always connect to each other. Pressing the button makes the upper leads connect to the lower leads (all 4 connect together). Therefore the advice to just use diagonally opposite leads is good, if you can't remember which way they go.

I don't think I've ever seen a tactile switch with NO/NC contacts like daguuy described.
