Ok so everything is build and ready for a finished product, only problem is that the 7805 regulator sticks up really high on the board, and affects the ability to fit in my case. Any suggestions of what i should do or what you did to bypass this on your portables if you have completed one?

Just relocate the 7805 somewhere else where you can attach a heatsink.

:D :D
If all else fails, take it apart!

i would say just desolder it and relocate it heck its only 3 wires

An idea I had goes something like this:

Move the 7805 to near your batteries, and hook up a heat sink there.
(I think) batteries work better warm. I heard that somewhere. It would make sense, chemical reactions are slower when it's colder.

So you set up a heat sink under or around the batteries. Recycling energy.

Then, you can play in the winter!

As Tim just informed me, you don't need the 7805 regulator if you're running around 7v.

I'm taking it out for my portable, once I get another SNES to fry...

wha, for a snesp you need some type of voltage regulator the snes takes 5 volts so if you take the regulator out and input 7 goodbye snes

The snes takes 5 eh?.......

So if I put only 4 1.2v batteries as opposed to 6 in series without a regulator it would run, right? Without a regulator, I mean.

That's cool. If I can fit 12 in (like I was planning to do in the fried SNESp)
then that means i'll get a good 7800 mAh. That's enough to play it for like 7-8 hours (Or so I think, I've never actually built anything yet.)

So if you're using AA's, just take the 7805 out, solder the two end holes together, and strap 4 batteries in series to the power supply. Voila.

yeah you can just jump the input and output wholes with a small wire but make sure you dont have any solder bridging ground and the other wholes

Turbo, Tim (ocne again) informed me of something. Voltage drop. When it goes below 5v, it'll drop out right? Not enough power.

So with 4 1.2v batteries, that's already under by a bit. Perhaps 5.... meh.

I just want another SNES....wahhhh....hey! WHERES THE CRYING EMOTICON!!!! :'(

it depends but if you have your batteries fully chargee it shouldnt be an issue i think triton is running his off 4 batteries and he said that the snes can run off a little lower than 5

4 1.2v AAs works. if you need a higher voltage for the screen and use a 7.2-9v battery, i'd suggest getting a 5v switching regulator (more efficient than linear regulator like 7805) free from the dc-dc convertor thread in the N64 forum. it say's 9v but the 3.3v ones also do and they can run on 7.2v so i assume 5v ones do too.

sorry sparkfist, but my resolution is 1360x1024 and i didnt realize some people had screens that small
