Sony 7.2v battery question?

Do I need to buy a charger to charge these puppies or is there another way?

I think the batteries charge similar to how you would a gba sp, micro, or DS, if you make a power plug that gives more voltage than the battery takes in, it should charge.. for instance setting a universal adapter or something to 9 volts with the battery still attached.. am i right?

Yes, it's a Li-Ion battery so it needs a special charger. A Lithium ion battery is different from NiCds and NiMH batteries in that it needs a special charging curve (different amount of current as time progresses)

And if that isn't done, they will basically explode. I had a cheap phone battery explode when I put it on my NiCd charger by accident - it was a mess.

Yes, you need a charger. They're not that expensive, though.
