I'm getting into computer repair and networking (what I'm going to college for in June), so I wanted to work-study at a place where I could get experience in this field. (Padding the ol' Résumé
) There's a small computer repair center about 5 minutes from my house by car, so I went with the coordinator for a short interview and tour.The front room is pretty basic, with a large window and a couple cheap banquet tables covered with screens, CPUs, and accessories for sale. (one's a 486/66, another is a P4 HT 3 ghz or something crazy like that, with a bunch in between) The back room, where everything's repaired, is an "organized mess". There are boxes upon boxes of optical drives, floppy drives, hard disks, display adapters, basically anything that can go into a PC is in there in an appropriately labled box.
After the interview, the owner seemed impressed about what I already knew about getting viruses and crapware off of PCs (which is roughly 2/3 of his buisness). I mean I've been removing viruses and spyware from all the school's PCs for going on 4 years now...
So I'm betting I will be doing the work-study program there, which really kicks arse!Why? The store is 5 minutes from my house, my ride to school is roughly 30 minutes. I'd drive to the store myself, I go to school on the bus. Etc... So there are a couple ways I can go about getting there:
1. I can get up at 7:30 to drive from home to the store then back home at 1:30 once a week
or
2. I can go to school to go from there to the store by 10:00, only to leave at 1:00 to return to school to then go back home from there.
I hope to shoot for #1 so I don't waste several hours of otherwise productive time commuting every day. (30 mins X 4... roughly 2 hours a day out of a 6.5 hour school day, twice a week...)
Note that any of this info can (and will likely) change at any time, my folks and I still have to meet with the coordiantor and the buisness manager to settle things.
On another note, I'm thinking of maybe applying for A+ Certification while I'm in college, maybe sooner, who knows? (padding the Résumé again.
) Sound like a good idea? I borrowed the book "A+ Certification for Dummies" from the library and I'm reading it over now. At least half of it is stuff I already know! 
Man this post is as long as the essay I'm supposed to write for English class should be! (And yet this post isn't due on Monday, but look what I'm spending my time on! )
