IIRC from when I had to repair my friend's Xbox, the motherboard fills up the entire bottom of the case.

yep, sounds about right, i had a look at my neighbors dead xbox, it (IIRC) was around 14x10 or larger, huge, think PC mobo sized, and not a nano itx either!

It takes up most of the case. About 4 fifths of the width (the other fifth is the PSU) and about 1" - 1 1/2" off the front (USB ports). If your planning on case modding the thing, remember that the heatsink of the CPU is almost 2" tall.

Wouldnt a mini (X)box and controller (think Radica Genesis) be better? Or simply another way to imporve the portablity of the Xbox is to put it in a Arcade cabinet.

god, can you be any more vague, the "height" of an xbox mobo is about hmmm, 1/16 ot 1/8 of an inch, thats the thickness of the PCB, if you can be more specific we cant help you

So, you're going to make a Xbox potable just like those capsules you put into water to make the water potable?
Just playin' with what you said.
