I'm just curious what the LDO chip does versus the 7805. I ordered a handful of them yesterday from mouser so that I can get my SNES portable project rolling.
I also got my hands on a Sony PSOne LCD tonight. I want to begin wiring my SNES2 and the screen to batteries tonight but must I wait until the LDO comes before I do that?

the 7805 converts any voltage (at least 7.2 volts up to 36) to the 5 used by the motherboard. The LDO requires less initial voltage (needs at least 6v, I believe) and gives slightly better battery life by using less energy (heat) to convert the voltage. Assuming your PSOne LCD uses 7.2 volts, you probably won't even need the LDO's, though I might be needing one if you are willing to sell one (just might)

Sure, I'd be happy to sell you one once I've replaced the 7805 on my SNES. I got extras because I know I might do something stupid like fry it trying to solder it in.
Do you know where the "definitive" guide for using a Sony 5in LCD is? I looked on your site, SpongeBuell, and found good stuff on using LEDs instead of the backlight, but where do I get the pinouts for the screen? I know I've seen it but I must have forgot to bookmark it.

lol, I was just about to get it for you. Also, it's not a big deal, but it's actually not my site (assuming you're looking at doomportables) technically. It's owned by Abbibi, and Gannon and I are running it while he is getting out of the military. He should be back any time, though.
