Writing a new book, what do you think?

Post by dkap01 »

What do you guys think of another how-to book being written on building portables? Because Im writing mine as we speak... I'll have 4 to 5 portables in it ( Dreamcast, playstation, N64, Jaguar and maybe Gamecube). Also I'll show how to build a vacuum table and how to do vacuum forming. Then the rest of the book will be filler's, like what tools to use and screen mods and so on. Let me know what you think and if there is anything else that you think should be in there...

I think go for it! If you could make vaccuum forming easy, that would make a world of difference in how people make portables. And the DCp guide alone would be worth buying it. I could probably make one on my own, but that would make it much easier.
How would you be distributing it? Would it be an e-book or a real life "paper" (whatever that stuff is...) book? About how much?

Hmm...gamecube...looks like someone might beat you to the punch on that GCP how to, eh gamey?

Well the more I vacuum form the better I get at it and I dont even use clay any more, so that will save you around 1 hr to 1 1/2 hrs. I also have other tips and tricks that will make vacuum forming easier. Right now Im writing my proposal for Sams publishing and I'll seed that in this week... If that doesn't work I might use cafepress, its a print on demand site (http://cafepress.com ). I know with the vacuuming forming and DCp how-to thats the book selling point. If gamey makes a GCp how-to then I might not do one, I guess we'll see. And for a price I dont know yet.....

Sounds like the idea talked about in the Book forum for Hacking Videogame Consoles II.

If you can get it published thats great. And Gamelver will have a more pressing reason to have that Howto manifest itself.

Well, someone should. I don't know if I'd get a sequel deal or not, probably depends on Christmas sales. Thing is I want to film a new movie next summer, and writing one of those books is quite time-consuming.

man...I wish I wasn't so damn lazy :P...anyway, I'm currently building a GCp to sell, so I won't have much time to write a how-to, but perhaps when I'm done I can whip one up...it won't be REALLY precise....but it'll at least give the reader an idea of the overall steps involved in making a GCp :) (or, more specifically, MY GCp :P). I'll be sure to include the most important steps when writing it (if I ever get to writing it, that is) and I'll start taking pics of the GC and all the work I do on the one I'm working on right now :)

good to hear that you're writing a book, though, dkap01 :D
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

You really should, Dkap. You're incredibly gifted at portablizing, and it would be great if you could share some of your knowledge with the community. Besides, it would be an excellent complement to Ben's book, as the two together would really cover all the major systems (with the exception of Xbox, but I don't think anyone's stupid enough to attempt it). I'd definitely get it!

Thats what I was thinking, with bens book and mine, it would cover most of the systems out there. Like ben said it takes a lot of time to write... Who knows if this book does as good as bens, maybe there will be a second book(PS2, Gamecube, Xbox ect...) Who knows only time will tell
