does anyone hack the psp in here? ok so i am freakin ruling the hookboot stuff. But here is the deal. i know the hardware is capable and the thing is ergonmically dope. The PSP's next step is being a ds. im trying to get the emulator to work the same way as fastloader. if anyone has any ideas as to how i would emulate a cartridge to umd i would be ever so grateful. also i dont think it would work the same way as nesterj (regular nintendo) and the homebrew package due to the amount of non compatible data your would be transfering from your static memory. if anyone who is a hardware wiz was to get the cartridge slot out from the ds out of it and hookit up to small usb outs i bet we could make the drivers to get em to talk to eachother. anyways just some ideas for a hardware savy audience. or how bout this. if anyone has a gbds emulator that is more easily maliable than g6flash 3 or nds neo flash that would be helpful as well.

it's not gonna happen. Before you get your hopes up any higher, it's impossible. If it is possible, it's not worth it. Not only do you need drivers and stuff like you mentioned, but you'd need an emulator, which isn't even on the PC yet, and you'd need to work with both screens, as well as the touchpad.

thats the thing. it has been done on the pc through the two programs i listed above. ds emulators exist.
step 1: get psp to talk to ds or ds emulator
step 2: get psp an infrared mountable mouse or pda
step 3: load psp drivers to pda

yes... it would be complicated. thats why i figure that either a ds emulator or usb hacked ds drive are the only possibilities. i never said anything about wi-fi. though i heard something about the psp and bluetooth the other day and im sure that if that is possible then blusnarfing is the next step.

1. DS emus Do exist for the PC, but their software support is rudemantary at best. (they barely run)
2. PSP and DS use different Wi-Fi encoding, so you'd have to write some software for the PSP that can translate to and from DS-ese.
3. How are you going to emulate a touch screen on the PSP?
4. PSPs are way slower than modern PCs, so there's no chance they will run DS games
5. PSP emulators cannot even run Saturn/PSone/N64 games (as far as I know), so how do you expect to run DS games (which are basically the same as N64) ?

psp have the power damnit. i have mine clocked at 266/133 right now and im playing rengoku str8 off the memory stick. thats underclocked from 333 to retain more battery life. and also i believe there is a saturn and an n64 emulator and the psone is in tha werks. the psp rivals with the ps2 in terms of graphic capability. you are correct however abou the ds emu's though. thats why i was wondering if anyone had any besides the g6flash and neoflash. they do work though .

Do you really think these emulators you just mentioned will run at fullspeed? Because they probably wont, and emulators are crap when at a lesser speed.

it does seem rather possible, psp does have both a standard and analog pad, correct? the screen is easily large enough for both screens. It's a fairly powerful system...
now will the emulator ever be practical--probably not. This is hardly a reason to shoot somebody down. Everybody who brought up SNES emulation on the GBA was shot down too, and it happened (but still isn't practical)
that said, this isn't an emulation forum, we're not software freaks, we're into hardware. we know very little about emu coding--and from what I've seen on PC, nobody knows a whole lot about it. before you even start, this will have to change. not that you'd really be able to use any of their code directly, but the documentation on DS emulation has go get a bit farther.
you'll actually be scratchbuilding, as any PC code won't be nearly efficient enough. I don't even have an idea what tools are available for PSP.

it's certainly possible, though I haven't seen the inside of a DS enough to know how it would work. NDS doesn't have to read its games especially quickly (compared to, say, GBA). I also don't know how the PSP USB support is handled. If it's in firmware or in software.
But I can't figure out why you would want to do that when perfectly good dumps of the NDS games exist. If you do this thing, you'd want others to use it, and most aren't going to build hardware devices.
*I believe* the reason NDS doesn't care about how fast it reads games is because it loads parts of itself into ram at a time. After you figure out how much it needs, you just code a way to pull it from memstick--assuming I'm right on that. A visit to a DS dev forum would tell you in about a 5 minutes. But the NDS 'backup' hardware are mainly CF and SD adapters right now--so memstick probably reads fast enough too.
