N64 micro idea

Post by MaDnEsS »

if you can mod a entire nes programing you should be able to do the same with a n64 i have an old chip reader so ill just take the code off all the chips in the n64 and put them on a newer larger chip. so then all i would put in there is that chip and the n64 processer. plus the power and the video and the controller board. would be really small.

you probly think its a crazy idea but i have a expert helping me whos done a tone of work with this kind of crap as soon as i showed him the board he came up the idea so i think it will be possible yes a lot of work dumping code from chip to chip but i think it can be done.

Also if people make n64 emmulators th obviosly must have the source of the chips so they can progam them. so it will be a lot easer if i can find an already riped source doc or somethin like that

The n64 cpu doesn't have a "source" code, it's a hardwired gate array just like any other non programmable processor.
Emulators work by mimicing the logic processes that go on inside the processor.
If you really want a smaller n64, take the source code of a cycle accurate n64 emulator (which probably doesn't exist) and program it into a field programmable gate array.

...That could take years of work. We are talking about a 96 MHZ processor and a console using RDRAM. It is likely as complex as a 6x86 motherboard in some respects.

Now, if someone was able to make an assembler to convert N64 code to NDS code on the fly, then maybe an adapter could be possible. That might be a way to do it, but keep in mind that if the NDS lacks the procesing power and RAM to do that in software, the adapter might need it's own processor and RAM, and maybe even it's own power supply. >.<

I just don't see an easy way to do it, especially with a processor that possibly has a transistor count in the hundred-thousands or even in the millions.

Well, why not just make a portable one? It may not be micro-size, but hey, it's something.

Of course, the same people who tell SNES portablizers to get a GBA will tell N64 portablizers to get a DS, forgetting that not all games are available on all platforms. ^^*

i know it is easily possible to make a n64 about the size of the mobo and mebe less than 2" thick but it would be difficult and pricy! if i had money i would shoot for it!
