Okay, ive got a real good idea here, but i dont think that it would actually be possible.
Take an NES, and make it into a portable...that had an OS on it, so you could select games that you had uploaded onto it. (kind of like a videogame i pod) there would have to be some kind of plug in to hook up to a computer to take the data off of the game, load it into the handheld and then run it from the handheld with no cartridge attatched.
Think about that.
Ive already got an NES, and a screen i would be willing to use from my crappy portable dvd player.
Could this be done?[/code]
Would it be possible...

Frankly the results wouldn't really be worth the effort. The best you could do would be to squeeze a bunch of mapper 0 games onto some kind of flash device. As I understand it, this is basically how the XXX-in-one NOACs work.
Here:
http://tuxnes.sourceforge.net/nesmapper.txt
is a fairly comprehencive list of games and their mappers. As you'lll notice, there aren't many great mapper 0 games so the effort is essentially pointless.
If this is the kind of setup you are looking for, then you may want to invest in a GameBoy Advance, Flash cart, and PocketNES:

Alternatively, I here the GP32 (don't have a link, sorry), and some other one... whose name I can't remember.... are good choices too. And I'm sure either of those will be cheaper and MUCH less time consuming than what you are suggesting.

the thing other than the gp32 you are thinking of is probably the zodiac. Personally, I'd go with the GP32. Because it's been around for a while, its emulation is pretty advanced, and you can do something that you were thinking of, more or less
