Need help connecting control board to mobo

(The "back of the connector" is if you hold the plug end of it to you so the rounded parts are on the bottom and you spin it 180 degrees on its X axis (left or right), so you're looking at the part that is otherwise inside the plastic thing)

The big dots on the bottom diagram are what I believe to be the controller points, the smaller ones are memory card points.

If anyone could supply photographs to replace my crappy drawings, that would be great! (My dad took the cam to work today)

You're right, you have two rows of pins (one for memory cards, and one for controller pins). You want to use the row closest to the edge of the board. The order you should solder the wire in is:
1 Green
2 N/C
3 Blue
4 Yellow
5 Red
6 Black
7 Purple
8 Orange
9 Brown
I just noticed that you do not have a purple wire (maybe because you don't have analog sticks?), anyways that is how you would connect the wires.
And to hook up a memory card just match up the pins with the connector in order. Its just a straight connection.
EDIT: Can't wait to see your PSP I was playing mine and someone said it was old school.

Seriously it's not even that old. It's only one generation back.

Use the pinout above, but make sure to wire 8 to 2, the controller does that for some reason.
