Reason for forums being down earlier

Post by SpongeBuell »

In case you guys were wondering, the forums were down for the last day or so because the MySQL server was down, the database that stores everything on the forum for those that don't know much about web stuff. This is nothing like the previous hacks, no virus threat in sight

Actually, Trv and I read about that error on the phpbb help site. It saidthe error came up because there were more queries to the MySQL database than allowed per hour. (At least that's what several people found the problem to be...)

We were guessing some script kiddie was running a continuous-search query script on us, because I doubt having an average of 9-12 members on at once will hit the limit of 50,000 hits per hour.

Cursed black-hat hackers...

What I want to know is, how did you fix it?

Credit added where credit is due. ;)

Sorry 'bout that.

(Trv and I were brainstorming about this on Google Talk yesterday. He supplied the link.)

Well, I talked with the iPowerweb people (Ben's host) and they said that the server was indeed down. I suppose that could be because of a script kiddie making too many queries or something, though.

You think these attacks are a part of a consprisy by either Nintendo or Sony. Trying to stop us from doing what we're doing. But then again it could also be the result of some jerk.

It's nothing to do with hacking or DoS, it just happens that the server only allows ~5000 hits per hour to the forum.
