toggle between rom chips?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

toggle between rom chips?

Post by glassonion914 »

I would be happy if my portable had only the 12 games from radica #1 and #2, do you think it's feasable to to wire the radica to a new board with roms from both radica 1 and 2 and toggle between them with the ground (1st position on the rom if i'm correct) instead of to a cartridge slot - or maybe a third toggle position for a cart slot...
I've sold all my genesis everything through the years, sadly, and I've bought radica's 1 and 2 for cheaper than 6 games.

incase you're wondering, the wires go to the ground spots on the chips and cart slot

if there are multiple grounds on the cart slot you could build an auto-switch between int. and ext. games.

Thats a really good idea! I might buy the Street Fighter , and Red versions and build one.

I saw some talk on this topic in an earlier thread, but I want to get into it more.
Now I'm thinking leave rom 1 in there, solder wires from its leads to rom 2 shoved elsewhere and I'd only put a switch on their ground wires. Anyone who's actually done the soldering required for the cart slot ought to know if it would be difficult to separate chip 1 at the ground only (the first position on the rom) - in order to work in a switch... be it toggle or something automatic like 'gannon' was talking about.
Might as well throw a cart slot on as well... A lot of bulk though - if I can get get it as small as I want it I'll be happy with 12 games.

you're right i see "gnd" at positions 13 and 32. can't remember where i read position 1 was ground, must be confusing it with something else. I wonder if it's necessary to interrupt them both...

The guy actually added relevant information to the topic, rather than just saying "Oh that's neat lol".

Leave him be.

but by only switching the ce lines you might be increasing the total draw (probably by less than 10mA, but still :P)
