GBA screen for archos?

Can someone show me the adapter required to use the GBA screen. I have searched and can't seem to come up with anything. I have an Archos AV320 and a GBAsp and the screen on the Archos is busted. My plan is build the functions of the archos into the GBAsp and replace the buttons of the Archos with the buttons of the GBA.

From what I understand, there is no way at all of hooking up to the screen directly without destroying the GBA??

I want my GBAV320SP now!!

If anyone else has tried a similar thing or has any ideas i'd be very greatful

as I really wanna get this to work!

so long as the archos can do AV out it should work

Well, there IS the GBA TV/AV adapter, but that requires that you leave the entire GBA/ GBA SP intact. AFAIK, the Portendo is the only system where the original screen was left in the case, and even that required a whole chroma decoder board.

True, though that wasn't the point I was trying to bring about. Actually, it is somewhat, like Kevin, you need extensive knowledge of electronics to do something like that, especially a board for decoding the GameBoy screen! Actually, that's not a bad idea, maybe someone could execute a mod like that with an iPod and some knowledge of touch-sensitive buttonsâ€¦

I have one, i paid $25 for it, plus import fees (not just this, but a whole other bunch of crap too). If you need a screen THAT BAD, get something in your local area. The quality isnt that great, but its not that bad either. If you can get it for less that $30 without shipping and import fees, and you dont know anything about how to get a modded screen working, get the GBA AV Adapter. IMHO go get a PSOne screen...

If you dont know which end of a soldering iron to hold and need help getting whatever modded screen you get your hands on to work, just feel free to ask us on the forums. Im one of the many people here willing to lead the blind.

And getting a PSOne, Hip-Gear, or Intec screen working really is EASY!

Getting it hooked into your AV320 might be a little difficult. Try and get me the datasheets on the video/lcd processor and I will see if it can do what you need.

The screen in the archos at the mo is screwed, so i searched for a replacement and its gonna cost me Â£100! So its just been lying around for a while. The archos has an av out and s-video out, so my plan was to strip the archos out of its case (already done) and make a new case which will hold the gbasp and the internals from the archos. So the gba av adapter which Foxx373 linked to should be just the trick. If I can find a way of disabling the buttons on the GBA while it is "archos mode" then i can wire the buttons of the GBAsp to the archos mainboard and all should be good... I'll let u know how it goes when i get hold of the av adapter, cos if the text doesnt show up well on the screen then its probably gonna be soldering iron and scope out for a complete screen hack. This is gonna be fun!

Oh, and the guys over at avos (sourcefourge) have got linux working on it and have open source code and data sheets available so its all possible i think....

you need the A B L and R buttons on the GBA Video cart to adjust brightness contrast hue and saturation. If the thing has a video out, just go with a console screen. It will look a LOT better! The GBA AV Cart looks a bit pixelated and grainy.

I think u have convinced me, it would look sweet because it would just be the screen width with a bulge behind for the hard drive and chips. I have an infrared adapter for it and a remote too, so i can build that in. Hmmm i'm gonna go search for a cheap psone screen in the uk then

you could go the extra mile and vacufrom yourself a new case... but just slapping the Archos on the back og the screen with a beefed up batery wouldnt look too bad. I added in a HD-15 VGA jack to the bottom of my screen that gives me all the inputs i need. Power, Composite, RGB and audio all go into that jack. I just plug in different cables depending on what i want it to do. I have velco on the back of the screen so i can attach the screen to a device and battery. it doesnt look half bad...

and theres a new electonics superstore just opened in town.....
