xbox hdd in a pc?

hi. would it be possuble to boot xbox os on a pc? i know that the xbox is a pc underneath so, can it be done?

The XBOX hdd is locked so if you put it into your computer it would not be able to read it's contents. However it is possible to unlock the drive and view it's contents, if you have the proper software to unlock the drive. As to whether you could make your computer boot up the XBOX os, It could be done I suppose if you were really good at that kind of stuff. But keep in mind that the XBOX uses .xbe files which can't be read by a computer. If somehow you could convert these files to .exe, you may be able to run the os. It's possible, I guess, but why would you want that os in the first place?

I highly doubt it. The XBOX OS is definitely based on Windows, but it is tailored to the XBOX hardware. There's no way to get it to work with the hardware on your PC. Your PC has a different motherboard, graphics card, etc.. The XBOX OS only knows how to drive its own hardware. Nothing else.

Also, and unfortunately, the XBOX hard drive cannot be used in a PC. I swapped out my original XBOX hdd with a much larger one and was hoping to use the 10 gigger from the XBOX in a cheap Linux configuration. But it just doesn't work because of what Dave said.

actually if you unlock it with your xbox (and the right software) you can format and use it.

As for booting xbox OS, no--the hardware is too dissimilar. The only way to get an identical setup would be to put the rest of your xbox into a tower case with it. Which is pointless, but possibly fun. I guess it's useful if you think your xbox is too compact in its current state.

let me guess, a buddy modded his xbox and gave you the drive?

Or his Xbox is toast and he wants to recover the saved games off of it.

I do know that you can change things on the hard drive. You have to have a DOS box and look at xbox-scene.com for a toutrial about blessing the hard drive.

I havent read much about what to do with the hard drive (original) after removing it, if you want try selling it on ebay to make a few bucks.
