gc screen on double a's

gc screen on double a's
does anybody know how long a verge gamecube screen will run off 8 double a's?

I'm not familiar with the screen. Is it one of those Psone LCD's repackaged? If it is made to run off 12V it might be able to A) Run off 6 rech. AA's (7.2V) without modding, or B) Be modified to run on rech. 6 AA's.
If it is one of those old GC screens, I know how to mod it. And if it is a PSone LCD repackaged, it can already run on 7.2V. So either way you should be able to do it. Question is, do you want it to run on 6 AA's?

im not sure which type it is, but it runs of 12 volts, im going to try it on 8
EDIT: it works off 7.5 volts
. should i run it off 7.5 or 12? if its just a regulator in there, it would probably be more efficent to use 7.5.
super edit: im now running iit off two arrays of 5 double A's, since im using a 10 battery holder. it seems to work. now i just need my super joy

Verge screens wont work properly above 9V. Dont plan on running it from AAs, they dont have eough power. Trust me, I have tried.

The base of the screen (the part that attaches to the cube) has a stepdown power regulator in it. Dont try and school me on the Verge Gamecube screen, i have one, and i know everything there is to know about it. If you have any questions, im the one to ask. If you remove the base and screen, you can run the screen directly with 6.8V-8.2V. You can use an LM317 regulator to make a "Power Supply" that can run from 7.2V-12V @ 1A. Seach the forums for LM317, i posted some awsome links on using the LM317 regulator.
An stock screen runs at about ~750mA. Alkaline AAs pump out about ~350mA. Two arrays of 5 AAs will probabbly have enough power for about an hour, maybe a few minutes more.
Eight AA's in series should not be enough to power the screen for very long.. Ive tried 6 and 8 AAs and i couldnt get the screen to turn on. But im also using the lm317 regulator as a safety measure.
I have the 9.6V 1600mA/h RC pack from radio shack, and no LED mod. My screen (plus 9V @350mA Device) run for a little over 2.5 hours. If you can use the 7.2V battery, it goes up to 3300mA/h the battry life would be 4-5 hours.
If you use the LM317 regulator with the Verge screen and any RC battery pack, put a decent heatsink on it. it gets HOT, especially with the 3300mA/h baattery.

EDIT: if you run the screen with more than 8.2V directly, the colors invert, and contrast doesnt exist. I call this the "Unhappy Screen".
