Switchless Import Mod?

Could something like this be used on the Gamecube Import mod, with some kind of IR interface possibly? This would be one of the best things to have on a Gamecube, so I wouldn't have to cut my case.

You don't necessarily have to cut your case, just put the mod switch in the Serial Port 2 cover.
