I have a Cort 4 string and frankly thats all a bass needs in my opinion, I prefer the less complicated riffs when playing with friends(heck I'm the only one who plays it). And I highly doubt your a novice if you shelled out for a 12 string and if your looking for some good bass lines try "Grand Funk Railroad, Im Your Captain"
