Wow cool, especally sence he made the cabints himself. Well gets me in the mood to try it, as soon as all my other craps done with.

I've got a 2.4 GHZ P4, 1GB Ram, 2 80GB HDD's, CD-RW, DVD-ROM set coming soon, maybe I'll try and build this, or an ultimate Linux box.

Those cabinets are nice i wonder what you could sell one for on ebay. I think i would like to build a mame so i could play lots of games instead of just one. Dont get me wrong i like pac man but id probably be able to download it on the mame. I have pacman for ps1 so im all set.

Really? I thought emulating the newer arcade games took a fare amount of power. Or do you just mean for old classics.

MAME can only emulate 80's (and some early 90's) arcade games. But there's nothing wrong with making one with modern day power for non arcade games like Doom3.

Yeah and what about Metal slug 4 and 5 (Metal Slug is tha best!:D) and KoF 2003 but I don't know if MAME can emulate those cause I use NeoRage for them.

The MAME cabinet I've been working on, is made from an Atari Crystal Castles cabinet (1983). I picket up the empty cabinet from a local flee market for $20. It's in very good condition. I'll post some photos later.

As I stumble across this thread, I couldn't help but throw a pic in of my MAME cabinet I built from scratch a few months ago. I'm on here looking for a new project, so it looks as though a portable system will do just fine! (As I wait for the N64 to show up in the mail...)

My MAME cabinet stats...

27" Wells Gardner monitor (not cheap, but a MUST for arcade games-TV's suck!)
2.14 Ghz AMD
IPAC keyboard Encoder
4 Super Arcade sticks
3" Arcade trackball
Coin door
4-way for Pacman/Donkey Kong etc...
Never ended up installing the spinner (probably won't as I mostly play street fighter's and the Mortal Kombat series)
Cambridge 5.1 Audio (a must for MP3 playback on it's Jukebox)
Industrial Black/Grey Laminate all over
and I'm sure I'm leaving out plenty more...

Total cost about 6 months ago for the entire project... about $1600. Not cheap, but a steal for what it does! Now that being said, I'm 27 yrs old, have a great job and finally make enough money to do what I please with it. I remember being 8 yrs old and drooling over this kind of stuff. For those of you say 10, 12, 14 etc... just hang in there as you'll make all kinds of cash one day not too long from now... just stay in school and get a degree you can always fall back on! Jesus, I sound like my damn parents! Sorry

My design is similar to the 4 player Gauntlet or NBA Jam cabinets, though the actual dimensions are from scratch.

I've got about 4000 games installed, but haven't updated it with Mortal Kombat 4 or Soul Caliber as it usually takes them a few months to get
new games working right!

I forgot to mention my first cabinet was from an old aliens cab. It was a "train wreck" with buttons in the wrong locations, a TV, no trackball (which dubs as a navigation tool - ie. mouse) etc... I sold it and hit the drawing board. Lots of research involved too. Exactly like I feel right now beginning my N64 portable!
