Hey, my computer has a Pentium 2! Well, not the one I'm using, but the PC in my room. And then I have another one with a plain old Pentium. Old skool...

Pentium 2 and 3 family, I never used. Hell I went from a Pentium (233MHz) straight to a P4 (2.26GHz). I dont know if the whole slot cpu thing is that good, esspecally since Intel went back to the flat square on the P4.

If you can fit the thing in the SegaCD go for it. Probibly make one hell of a Sega emulator computer. Otherwise I wouldnt use that type of cpu, they draw too much power and are just an obstruction for airflow in the case.

I dunno much about those older ones, i just know mine is a 2.4 Ghz, kinda new. Im getting a new grafix card that will be able to handle HL2 very smoothly. yay.
as for your computer, You should put it in a new case, make it look cool.

I think that the slot design was meant to be easier to swap out, harder to damage with ESD (no actual pins, just a cart edge), and to differentiate Intel processors from AMD ones. That'd force some people out of the (Super) Socket 7 arena and buy the brands of boards specificly meant for Intel processors. Not unsimilar to RAMBUS vs. DDR-SDRAM and the ATX and ATX12 formfactor crap. (only difference is a pair of Grounds and a pair of +12V lines that go to Intel boards. I made an adapter for the older ATX to work with ATX12)

I've used Intel mostly, but have run an AMD processor for a while. That computer only recently died, possibly due to mobo failure.

80486 DX-2 66MHz (x2)
Pentium 75MHz
Pentium 100MHz laptop
Pentium 233MHz
Cyrix MII PR333, 250MHz (crap processor that can't even play UT right)
Celeron 300(A)MHz, overclocked to 450MHz (not a typo, these near 500MHz on stock cooling)
Pentium III 600
Duron 750
Pentium III 866

Those are the currently assembled (or kinda assembled) boxes in my home.
Warranty-Voiding fun!

The reason they temporarily used slot-based CPUs was so that they could take the L2 cache off of the motherboard, and have it in the processor instead. If you open the cartridge there will be the actual CPU and a bunch of cache chips. Having the chips on the motherboard limited them to running at the same speed as the motherboard, which was slow. Putting them in the processor allowed them to have them run faster. However, there weren't chips availible at the time that could run as fast as the actual CPU, so they often ran at half the speed. Later, they figured out how to integrate the L2 cache into the actual processor die, which allowed it to run at the same speed as the CPU, increasing performance. No longer needing the big cartridge to hold additional chips, they went back to the standard square shaped design.

make a PCp, or put it inside a Genesis and Sega CD Combo with the Floppy Disk drive where the Cartridge Slot is... yes Floppy Disks will stick up, so what? or instead put a Compact Flash drive (much more practical) and where the Sega CD drive is, put a SlimDVD, and super glue the end of the SegaCD Disk Drive to the SlimDVD Drive. Put the Hard-Drive and the rest in, and there you have it, bundle in a Sega Genesis and Sega CD Emulator... and your done!
