Take it from the modest guy (me), sodering that connector will be a bit hard if you are a noob to soldering. Here are some pointers to get you started...
Have a really sharp tip on the iron. Something like a sharp pencil will work.
Tin the wires (put some solder on them) by holding a small blob of solder on the tip, and run the wire through it a few times. Then trim off as much extra wire as possible.
Make sure the pads that you want to solder on the board are tinned as well.
Desoldering braid is your friend! Learn to use it well.
Also, try and check to see what pins are used on that connector, and which ones are either blank or not needed. I recently solder'd an N64 Expansion cart to the main board. Half of the 36 (oe is it 72?) or so connections were comon ground. I could have saved myself a lot of time if I would have realized that BEFORE I started my soldering.

I am doing this, got any tips? I am fairly good with a soldering iron (been using it over 7 years, not as good as you) and am wondering about the best way. Yes, I am using the expansion pak, not the jumper pak. Whaddya got?Foxx373 wrote:Also, try and check to see what pins are used on that connector, and which ones are either blank or not needed. Just used the same tips as i posted before. Check the pak for common ground leads. It seems that almost every other pin is a ground. Tin the pads to the expansion pak. Taking the board out of the case helps too. Keep your wires short. Solder the bottom pads first, then the top ones. If you make a mistake with one of the leads, its easier to fix this way. When you finish the Expansion pak, trim all the wires with a pair of scissors to get them all the same length. Then tin, and solder onto the motherboard. All of this shouldnt take you more than 3 hours. I did ALL the pins, and it took me less than 2.
