usb stick ideas...

I want to get a 64mb usb stick, and put lots of cool dos progrmas and a small text mode linux ditro for school hacking, so what should it have? please make a not if the program is linux or windows.

I was thinking:

firefox, since school pc's have ie, and it's lame
irc client
small text editor (dos mode)
nano (linux text editor)
net send
a small proxy tool, maybe the firefox plugin
a port scanner (nmap?)
maybe small firewall and anti-virus?
random number generator (not cc one)
hex editor
nessus
ethereal
netmap
lophtcarck or john the ripper
pwdump2
ssh for linux, putty for windows

what else?

also, I am going to have an nes and snes emu's with a few of my favorite games.

Unless you can access the bios on your school's computers, you won't be able to boot from a flashdrive, because odds are, that USB is set as the last bootable device.

I think you might need a bigger thumb drive for all that. I got a 512 for all my hacking needs. I don't keep much on it just stuff like Fire Fox, Pwdump2, mp3, etc. If you don't alredy have lophtcarck get Cain...its way better then John and its free.

If you want somthing even better then a thumbdrive for hacking get a Keyghost. I'm gonna get one for next school year

You're going to spend $100 on something that someone else may find and steal?

BTW, if anyone here ever finds a keylogger on their XP computer, you can get past it by using the on-screen keyboard.

Look if you want this to be cheap and work. Look in your local paper for stores like Circuit City, Best Buy, CompUSA, ect. You can find 128mb thumb drives for like $20 or less (depends on the stores sale).

Then you download the tiny linux distro called DSL (Damn Small Linux) and you boot your computer up from it. Mount your thumb drive and select the install to pen drive option.

As for the booting thing. The computers better have up to date bios. As far back as say 3 (thats the age of mine) cant boot from the USB port.

If you are going to have FireFox on it, I recommend you download Portable Firefox, a homebrew version of Firefox that uses no user profiles, no history, no cache, and takes up far less space. (I have used it on a 16MB USB drive witrh no problems.

I thought the USB storage drives are waaay to expensive ($/MB anyways), so I bought a USB Hard drive enclosure from CompUSA and threw a spare 10GB Hard disk I had lying around.

If you want a keystroke use a software keystroke counter instead a couple kids I know have them on there flashdrives and they just download them to computers and look at them later. And external hard drives are way better you are getting gigs instead of megs good buy bicostp.

Hey, cars are harder to steal, and are insured. Also, odds that your car will be stolen from a school parking lot with over 100 other cars are something like 1 in 1000000, and that is when you don't have any security devices. When you have a keylogger on one computer in a lab with fifty other computers, odds a much higher, especially if I use that lab.

That's another reason why I bought the USB hard disk enclosure. With the power adaptor and USb cable, not to mention the size, it is much less likely to be stolen than a tiny pack-of-gum sized storage device.

And as far as cars go, I always park near cars that are MUCH nicer than mine (like hummers or Escalades or a Mercedes) Why would someone want a Saturn when they could have a Caddie?

Go look around sysinternals.

Includes psshutdown which lets you remotly shut down computers even if the shutdown command is disabled.
Also get whoppix and burn it to cd. Very fun.

If you have PCs in your school, and there are open USB ports in the back, your flash drive will never be found. But, sadly my school uses mostly macs, which have USB on the side, so anyone walking by can see.
