What exactly do I have?

Post by Guest who »

Summer is here and I feel the need to start a project so I thought about it and I decided to make a portable game system.

My question(s): What I have is a Jakks Pacific atari plug and play (looks like an atari joystick) and I hear that there lies a NOAC inside. If it is there, is this a good place to start for building a portable nintendo? (cart slot and all)

My other question: A local electronics store sells backlit color LCD screens that are 3.5" X 2.75", but they are touchscreen types; would I still be able to use them without the touchscreen part or are they different from regular LCDs?

I could see an Atari OAC in that, but I don't really understand why it would have a NOAC. How much do those screens cost?

those plug and play things are just emulation....
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

That's a good deal for a ~4.2" screen. Does it have a board with it, or is it just the screen with digital inputs and outputs. Have you seen the quality of it while connected?

I havn't seen the quality but it's a 240X320 pixel with 8bits-per-pixel color.

I don't know a whole lot about LCD screens, but I've got the pinout for it

1 GND
2-9 Display Data
10 GND
11 Pixel Clock
12 GND
13 Line Clock
14 Frame Clock
15-16 Logic Supply Voltage
17 Contrast Control Voltage (0-3V)
18 (L) Display OFF / (H) Display ON
19 GND
20 Touchscreen Y-UP Terminal
21 Touchscreen X-LEFT Terminal
22 Touchscreen Y-DOWN Terminal
23 Touchscreen Y-RIGHT Terminal
24 GND

You should be able to use that, but it might have that grey plastic look that you get with the DS.

this doesent seem like it woudl be usable acually...the pixel, line, and frame clock suggest some sort of propriotary vga or other computer interface as well as the lugic supply voltages (pins 15 and 16)

touch screens like these are generally used in POS/Industrial computerized equip with single board Comps in them....since they dont have a desk or flat surface for a mouse or keyboard they use the touch screen part

I guess I should have pointed out that you would need to build a rather complicated board. Too bad it doesn't have the board, because that is one hell of a deal for touch screens!
