Xbox Mod

Well my little mod (first project ever

) was to drill some holes into the plastic (and see-through) center of a controller. Then i would put an LED in each hole and make an "X" out of LEDs. So i go to radioshack to pick up some more LEDs and they didnt have any. Radioshack... without LEDs.. thats the craziest thing I've ever heard. I saw some "Multi Coloured Lamps", and bought those. Being the noobie that I am.. I didnt check the back of the package until I got home, and I found out that they are 12V lights. Great! First project already failed due to not having access to supplies.

Seriously, wat you should do, is jus get one led. Make a logo of your X, and make it all white (the x) and make the rest of the circle black, liek this:

But make ur own, so it will fit perfect in that circle. Cut out an x on the controller a little smaller then the one on ur printed logo. Where u cut the X, put sum bubble wrap or sumthin (plastic bag works), or glue is REALLY good to spread the light. That way, one led will light the whole thing up perfect. There are 2 tutorials on xbox-scene.com about this. that site has everything u will need.

I found one I like (tutorial).. it needs no extra batteries or whatever, you just solder it. When my dad gets home, ill figure out how to solder stuff

Oh and by the way, I'm thinking of hopefully making a reset button, or on/off switch on the controller.Is there any way to do that. (realistically, for my skill level) Anything else too, I have 2 controllers to play with so I want to practice and learn as much from them as I can.

The power button is a little advanced. It involves ripping the xbox apart, and I dont know if you want to dwelve into that yet. Sodlering is nothin, there are sum soldering guides floating around here sumwhere.

Well, I screwed up that motherboard. I soldered overtop of the.. hmm whats it called... The silver points that I needed to solder my wires to. Anyhow, I put too much solder on, and I couldnt even see/get to those points. I tried taking off the solder and I accidentally ripped off the points... There goes power and ground and a bunch of other stuff for that controller. Never fear, backup controller is here.

*Update* Great... can't open this controller.

First if you have a desoldering iron (has a bulb to suck up melt solder) you can clean up mistakes like that better, or if you have the bread stuff try that.

For your second controller are you looking under the sticker at the bottem? Microsoft (or anyone else) hids a screw under one so take your finger nail rub it over the sticker if you feel a void jam the driver right in there.

If memory serves me there are 7 screws in Xbox controllers so if you have out six there is one more, if you have seven... get a flat head screw driver and try prying the two halves apart.

I didn't even have to pry it, I just pulled the top part and wala. I also read that there was 7 but I only found six.

Great! Just great! This controller isnt working. I haven't even started soldering. I believe it's because the wire that connects to the controller is all weird. It has a big gash in it...There is only one thing I can do, or at least that I can think of. I could use the other controller's cable. Well, I'll try it out.

Yahooooo, I soldered all the first controller wires to the second controller wires.. and WALA... now i just gotta do the lights

Remember, my camera sucks so.... here goes:

Basically, the second controller that I tried to add lights on, had a faulty cable. I just took the first controller's cable, cut the wires and then soldered the new wires onto it. My first successful soldering job

More pictures on the way, I did a test and the LEDs work.
