Ok back on track.

Yes I've seen those hard drives before, they're also called the IBM microdrive. I would say thats a great idea but with a hard drive giggling around I'd be conserned about it getting scratched. So either put it in a shock absorbing case or go with a compactflash that has the vram disabled.
