Gas mask

recently I have been thinking about getting a gas mask to protect from things like solder, bondo, and spray paint. Has anyone had good experience with a cheap gas mask? let me know in the comments.

Getting a cheap gas mask won't be helpful because different gasses/materials your trying to protect yourself from will get past most average filters. If your going to buy one buy a quality one with different filters to keep most things used out.

Just do that stuff outside, or near a window with a box fan in it blowing out. Honestly though, none of those are extremely dangerous in sane quantities.

The smoke coming off solder isn't lead, it's the rosin flux burning off.
Bondo is only dangerous if you start breathing a lot of dust while sanding it. A regular white paper dust mask will filter it out no problem.
You shouldn't really spray-paint anything indoors in the first place because of overspray. The solvents and propellant in the can aren't exactly good for you, but you shouldn't need a full mask like you see when people paint cars in spray booths on TV. Just stand upwind.

I have a cheap-ish one i got from ebay, i then went to the harware store and bought a couple of filters.

any home improvement store (menards ace hardware sears etc) should have 3M filter masks for around 30$

by painting outside you risk messing up your work, the dust particles, dirt and any other debris could land on your freashly painter parts.
thats why most professional painters paint inside.
I for one use a bathroom, that never got finished

Most professionals also have a system for extracting paint fumes and containing overspray as well.

I use an array of extruded active-carbon elements in a home made air scrubber, but I'd rather have an exaust fan with a fume hood.
It would enable me to do more interesting things involving electro-plating/etching and I wouldn't need to scrounge around for 'free' replacement elements.

The correct syntax for the YT tags (on this forum) is
[yt={size,size}]{share video URL}[/yt]
It does not render without size information, though it does not necessairly need to be correct.

For example:
Say that I wanted to post a video with a share video URL of:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ

And embed html of:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dQw4w9WgXcQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The resulting phpBB would be:

Cennar- it seems every post you make that I have seen has been lacking sense and difficult to understand. I know you're a long time member and not some dumb noob, but please try your best to make it easy on everyone else. ANYWAYS: Although solder fumes (flux fumes in actuality) are relatively safe, breathing them in on a constant basis can give you a type of asthma. Most people don't know that you can actually develop asthma; things like smoking excessively, inhaling chemical fumes, and excessive exercise can give you asthma. I ended up developing exercise-induced asthma, and I can tell you I'd rather not have it. If you solder and whatnot regularly, I would highly recommend some sort of mask. I think one of those cheap white ones would work fine; but if you do this nearly daily, I'd grab a higher quality one. You should have one around when spraypainting though, as that crap can give you bad headaches and make you a tiny bit high.

I'm not high today, I will be tomorrow, aside from that, the point I'm known for making could be hidden in a simple tone of sarcasm.

I speak from experience that safety precautions are a must in any work space.

I have many friends who spray paint in small areas with out masks, there much more "interesting" typists than you could imagine. I do mean "interesting" in a life shortened sort of way. Though to there own right to contest, there is a life after brain damage. (some how also the reason why Victoria calls me Beboe LasVagas is attributed to just one of these interesting people much admired for there art work.)
