ok, i was at target today and i always cruise their clearence section for something i may like or need and this time arround i came across a rechargable battery expansion pack thing for portable dvd players from Energizer....
its one of these
its one of the white ones
i dont know weither its 9.6 or 7.2 volts but i do know it was on clearance for $20 and it was $80.....it says it adds 6 more hours to portable players but its a little big, i could probally size it down some but it runs into some issues with my design

ok some new..... this battery is the 7.2 4500mah version BUT.....when i took it out the the packaging its got on lead to plug it into the ac outlet on your "dvd player" and then another ac adaptor plug on the battery it self and another transformer to plug into the wall.....this means i can leave the battery inside and not have to dis connect any thing to charge it and i may be able to play on it while it charges
i mean i probally could have done this with my own complicated home brew pcb but this way it'll save me some time and money not to make it....and its got 4500mah and what did it say in the book for a portable NES? 1100mah with a LED converted PSone screen....?
playing time ++
to top it all off Circuit city got in some more 5 inch displays....theyre the 3rd part displays for x-box and ps2 and what not....this one is for game cube and its $49.99...i have $10 on a gift card there and considering every place else doesent have any screens or their PSOne screens still cost $80 this is a pretty good deal....here is medford we are screen limited
edit:
about the battery again, i have yet to pop it open but theres still a chance to get it to run as the 9v battery with out harming it....mabe they did something to it internally to rate it doen to 7.2 volts that can be un done....i know a lot of companies make products like this with different ratings or speed or what not and because of the cost they buy one set of part for the whole line and impliment restrictions to get their desired ratings
