not technically portable screen hacking, but its in the same region.

is it possible to direcly connect my pc to my tv via the vga?

if so does anyone have the pinouts for a vga connector?

If your TV is a high-end HDTV unit with VGA in, then yes. If that's the case, check out htpcnews.com for tips on getting a good resolution working on it (640x480 will work with no troubles, but higher or widescreen requires some software tweaking).

If you have a standard US TV, no, you need a converter.

If you have a standard UK TV, then you can hook up VGA to the SCART connector and run special software called Power Strip on your PC to get it too display.

you can have software on tv's????????

there is a guide somewhere of how to put VGA into a psone screen.

buy a good graphics card with composite out and you can run it into and av on the tv......instant MAME machine

i hate a uk tv with scart.

how do i go about doing it? any diagrams/pinouts/instructions ect?

Before we start, I need to know a few things.

Where are you from, and what kind of video signals does your TV accept?
How much money do you have for parts?
How well are you with electronics?

There are a few things you can do right now. You can buy an AGP or PCI video card with Composite or S-Video output. I see PCI cards online for $20 USD.

You can build an RGB to Composite or RGB to S-Video conveter. Honestly, if you suck with electronics, just buy a new video card. Save yourself the trouble.

You can not directly plug VGA or RGB into a TV unless is supports it. Using a computer on a composite signal is kinda hard. Dont expect to play Kingdom Of Loathing, or surf the forums. S-video is do-able, but you need to kinda tweak the fonts a bit. If you wanna watch videos, some video formats, DVDs especially, have protection on them. Sometimes the video wont play on a TV. Usually its a matter of software settings, and driver settings.
