GCN joystick issues

Post by Falco »

So, the joystick on my portable turned out shoddy, and had some problems with the x-axis, so I ended up opening it up (which I had never planned on doing again) and trying to replace the joystick. But when I wired up the new one, I found out that each axis worked fine on its own, but when both of them were wired, there was no response on either. Any ideas? I tested several other joysticks that I thought were broken and found this happened to all of them, too.

Ugh, after just a few minutes of scraping at the plastic on the joystick board (I was trying to use the original PCB from the gamecube controller for convenience), it turns out that two of the pins, from opposite axes, are connected to each other. Just a few more seconds of scraping through the trace, it worked fine.
