Li-Po battery woes

I was having some charging issues with my Mega Tiger Sega Genesis portable. When it was first built it took about 4 hours to fully charge. However lately it was only charging about 10 minutes and quit. Today I decided to take the batteries out to see what was up. This is what I found...





One of the batteries had started to swell.

Anybody else had this issue?. What causes this? Overcharging? overheating? Charging circuit not working correctly?

I used a cheapo protection circuit from Batteryspace - PCB-S2A8..

I was thinking about getting this protection circuit. Anybody use one of these? It says it has a balancing function.

You have a faulty battery or it overheated. Was it sitting on a cpu or something hot in the portable?

Anyway you need to stop using it immediately and get a new one. Batteryspace will cover it under warranty if you send it back to them.

And no you don't need that Pcbas long as you are using a smart charger. Please tell me you are using the charger from my guide or one similar to it ?

if it is gone, you have to leave it in salt water for like 12 hours before you can dispose of it in general waste,
shame when these things happen

I believe I had a bad battery that I caused to go bad. When I original installed the batteries I remember shorting one of them. (a screwdriver touched the positive and negative leads of the battery, there was a spark)

Yes, I do use the charger recommended. Probably saved the battery from exploding.

Today I installed new batteries.



These are 4700 mAh, the old ones were 3200 mAh. So I should be getting some really good battery life now.
