Take a look at the other projects in this section to get an idea of how to make one. Even just looking at the pictures should help you get an idea of what is involved.

I'm going to attempt to summarize basic portabilizing.

There are two main parts, electrical and cosmetic. Electrical deals with connecting all your components (batteries, screen, console, etc.) together so that they work the way you want them to.

Cosmetic deals with case-making; putting your electrical components into some sort of enclosure that will allow you to use your system as a portable. Cases are most often made from plastic and painted. You can also you use wood or other materials, it's really up to you. You can make your own cases from plastic sheets in a process called vacuum-forming, or use cases that were meant for other uses, like to house modems, routers, CD players, etc.

With most consoles, you will need several main parts:
The console you are going to use
A screen that accepts video from your console
An audio amp (used to power speakers) if your screen doesn't have speakers
Batteries
A controller
A case

You will also need tools. The most important is a soldering iron. These are essentially metal pens that, when powered, are able to heat up a metallic compound called solder. Solder is used to connect wires to electrical parts. If you look at the motherboard of any device, you will see small metal blobs or pins; these are spots where signals or power are sent into our out of the board. These spots are where it will be necessary to add solder and connect wires to other components for such applications as inputting power and connecting audio and video signals. You might also want to invest in a hot glue gun, and some sand paper or files for case-making. You will also need a small cutting tool such as a dremel or a drill for cutting holes and removing unnecessary parts.

I hope some of that helps give you a brief understanding of the main process. Also, I would suggest you try a simpler system such as a NES, SNES, Genesis or N64 before trying a console like the dreamcast; the dreamcast is very complicated in comparison to the other systems and much less info is available regarding it. That's not to say you can't do it now or at a later point, but I would suggest a cartridge based system for beginners.

yes it's true the dreamcast are hard (PS2 too) I need to buy a N64 I think for my firts project

The main problem I have is how to connect the console with the screen, I have only screen without A/V connection. I think I need another screen for my first project because i'ts hard to connect a screen without A/V connection with the console ^^

Thank you for your help

You can't use a GameBoy Advance screen*, you need a screen that takes A/V or VGA (no a laptop screen won't work either*).

* = not without a controller that would likely cost more than a screen of that size that already takes A/V or VGA in.

Game Console - Case + Hammer + Hot Glue2 >= Square root of Shockslayer = PORTABLE!
