Broken Street Fighter II Arcade Machine
Our local skate shop (I'm not a skater but I like SFII) has a seemingly broken SFII arcade system. Everything works like new except the screen. It just shows no signal static (snow). I'm guessing that something is just unplugged and can be fixed easily, if someone knows what's up with the thing, any help would be appreciated.
It could be the signal cable is damaged and grounding out, or it could be that board's video is busted. It's most likely not something being disconnected completely, as an arcade monitor will display nothing at all when it isn't getting a signal. There are a few other possibilities, but those two are the most likely,
Thats odd, from what I know of arcades, the screen is RGB based. If it has static "snow" that usually means the signal the screen is getting is RF Based. If the screen is RF based and you are getting static, the problem could be in the RF converter. Find out what format the board outputs the video signal in, if you can. If its RGB then I dont know what to do. If its composite you can probabbly just go to radio shack and buy a Composite to RF converter, or build one from some scrapped video game parts.
If it outputs Composite you can try and drag a TV over, or some other kind of composite screen and test to see if you even get a signal. If you had a PSOne screen it can do both Coposite and RGB.
www.happcontrols.com has replacement parts, but they are hella' expensive. If its a bad screen, you would be better off bying a used TV and hooking it up. It will cost less and have better quality.
Hope to god none of the Video Hardware is fried.
And a word of warning, DONT REMOVE ANY BATTERYS! Im not sure but if SFII runs off of Capcom Play System (CPS) boards, the game chips are encrypted and there is a special "suicide" chip that holds the decryption key. If that chip is removed or looses power you will never gett he system working again without some hacking. If you dont know what EEPROMs FLASH RAM, and xOR tables are, chances are you wont ever get it working.
