Need a parts list for custom computer

Post by ghosstt »

My friend wants to get a good gaming computer going, and I figured we'd be able to build it for much cheaper than buying up an alienware.

His budget is about $1200, and his only requirement is that it gets this case:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811146050" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hes looking for hardcore gaming, so i7, SLI, 8GB of ram, etc I guess. All the goods.

edit: He only plays WoW, but he wants to be able to run 60fps straight, even in wintergrasp. :? Go figure.

Talk about using a sledgehammer to kill a fly... :lol:

If World of Warcraft is all he's ever going to do with it, then an i5 with a Radeon 4750 or GTX 260 will be more than enough to last him until Blizzard buys the entire universe twice over with their subscription money.

But what resolution does he want to run it at? (Or does he even have a monitor yet?)

@Bic: Tell me about it. :roll: He has this complex, that because the alienwares have i7s, and all these fancy cases, and cathode lights, that he needs it too, just to play wow. But its his money, not mine, so whatever he wants.
@BM: I'll find out soon.

But ya, if you guys could get a quick list of links together for everything sans monitor, keyboard and mouse, it would be awesome.

If you see him, ask him this:
1. Does he have/need an OS?
2. Does he need HD space?
3. DVD Burner, Blu-ray, etc?
4. And does he have a monitor?

:facepalm: Does he want a 675874653.7 DPI "gaming" mouse, a "gaming" keyboard with a different font on the key caps, a "low latency gaming" NIC, and other computer snake oil? :lol:

Just get him an i7 920 (it is an i7, doubt he'd know the difference) and one decent video card, and it will only get a few hundred FPS in World of Warcraft maxed out at 1920x1080. The Geforce 260s and Radeon 4000s are generally pretty good value-for-money now, especially if you can get one on sale. Get him a decent power supply like a Corsair TX750 and a surge protector to go with it. Whatever money's left over can go into all his "ooh shiny" accessories.
