Untitled Snesp Build log Problem Solved
Ok so this is my first portable and I have some questions. Some I will ask when needed but some I need answered now.
1. what is the best way to make the controls? (bens way, or solder tacts to pads, or split controller)
2. what speakers should I use?
3.Does the snes need heatsinks?
I'll surely ask more later. Just answer what you can.
What I'm using:
snes mini
psone screen
not sure on case yet
hopefully lithium-polymer batteries
No pics yet but I will get pictures of my crappy soldering soon
Oh suggest a name because I got nothing
all help appreciated -budnespid

2. can you make a breakout box for the snes? (if so how?)
3. How do you switch between internal controls and external controllers?
4. what speakers should I use?
5.Does the snes need heatsinks?

2. Pick a connector (serial, VGA, parallel, whatever). Wire the controller ports through that. Think of a breakout box as an extension cable for your controllers, but with a detachable connector in the middle.
4. Use the speakers that are already a part of your PSOne screen.

Fight MS Paint abominations! If you don't have a camera, go here, and pick something 3 megapixels or higher.

Ok so I need someone to do a led mod and an anti-glare mod.
Only experienced people please. Post offers and prices.

Just thought of this, so:budnespid wrote:2. how do i switch between internal and the breakout box?jdmlight wrote: I'll answer what I know.

3. Use Ben's solid-state video switcher? That's my best guess. Use one switcher per controller port. This should work out pretty well because the SNES's controllers use 7 pins, and the IC's that Ben uses in that switcher can switch up to 8 data lines.

Re: Untitled Snesp Build log
Ok I got a little work done yestrday. I desoldered the cart slot and rewired the capicators. I also desoldered the the controller ports.
Thats all for now- budnespid

Re: Untitled Snesp Build log
The LED mod isn't very hard, but use resistors between 20-32 ohms instead of the 10ohm resistors Ben used in the book. The only difficult part is cutting the slots for the LEDs without mutilating the plastic.budnespid wrote:Ok so I need someone to do a led mod and an anti-glare mod.
The anti-glare mod is actually very simple to do on your own. I did it for my portable NES and the only somewhat challenging part was starting the peel. In retrospect, I'm not sure if this mod was worth it because the screen always smudges and there are a few small scratches. AARGH! I need to finish that portable sometime.
Re: Untitled Snesp Build log
I just want someone experienced to do the led mod. Reason being that so far its the only thing i have paid for and i don't like wasting money.
Re: Untitled Snesp Build log
You should contact hailrazer, I bet he would gladly do it for you.
Re: Untitled Snesp Build log
He may, but for a price. Money makes the world round and he has to be able to make each project worth his time; he does excellent work.mako321 wrote:You should contact hailrazer, I bet he would gladly do it for you.
Re: Untitled Snesp Build log
Hailrazer is awesome, but from what I've heard very pricey.neverused wrote:He may, but for a price. Money makes the world round and he has to be able to make each project worth his time; he does excellent work.mako321 wrote:You should contact hailrazer, I bet he would gladly do it for you.
Anyone else?
Re: Untitled Snesp Build log PROBLEM!
Okay I rewired the capacitors and the cart slot. It didn't work last night, but when I got up this morning I checked all the pins in the connector and...... It worked!!! But sadly on every game I try except for NBA Jam I get horrible screeching Feedback. WTF Can anyone diagnose my problem?
edit: I tried it again and no feedback until I tried a LOZ a likn to the past, Now every game starts to screech again. This is pissing me off.
Thanks in advance- budnespid

Re: Untitled Snesp Build log PROBLEM!
I think I found the source of my screeching problem. I noticed that two of my capacitors were touching (could this really be the source of the problem?) I separated them and the screeching stopped. Hurray!
If someone would answer my controller question I will start on that.
thats all for now- budnespid
Oh and Pics to Coming soon!

Re: Untitled Snesp Build log PROBLEM!
More than likely one of the caps was leaning to far and had come loose from the board. When you straightened it , you made contact with the board again. Might want to check the solder joint to make sure
