Assorted problems (analog stick, Z, etc)

Okay, so....
I was wiring up the 3.3v circuit with the PTH08000 TI card, and when I go to test it I get a video and then BOOM the capacitor popped. Does anyone have any idea why? I followed the diagram in the sticky and I know it worked for a minute because the picture came on. It was a 100uf 35v (+20%?) capacitor if that helps...


Could it have been a bad TI card? The little humidity thing didn't look too friendly when I opened up the package. <.<

So I've got my portable for the most part hooked up and stuff. But I've run into a few problems:

My Z button doesn't work, despite being hooked up properly, but R does.

Is there any alternate place to hook up the speakers on the PSOne screen?

My analog stick (here's the big problem) seems to like to move on it's own. Before, it would move up even if there was nothing plugged in. I plugged it in after clearing the space around the board and now whenever I move a direction, it seems to linger in that direction. I can't seem to figure that one out Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Capacitors typically explode when wired backwards. Did you make sure you wired the capacitor's positive and negative leads the right way?

That's what I did. I haven't ever really even seen a capacitor before this, so I didn't know to look for the GIANT BLACK STRIP. Ugh, thanks a ton, man!

Say, you sound smart - do you know how to get a wire to stay in the charging jack from Radio Shack? It gives me a little groove, but I can't seem to solder to it, even with flux. ><

How big is your iron. Needs to be bigger maybe. 40W for large connectors.

Your soldering iron could also need to have its tip cleaned. If there's excessive corrosion on the tip, the heat won't transfer well from the tip to whatever you're soldering. If your tip is shiny, you're good, if it looks brownish you should clean it. Try that before investing in a bigger soldering iron.

I figured out some more stuff:


Z button does not work in any game.

DK 64 thinks that Z is ALWAYS pressed.

Paper Mario seems to like to move my character to the left but DOES NOT REGISTER A BUTTON AS BEING PRESSED.
I'm so lost. I may just try to find a new case and controller and redo that part.
