Xbox 360 VGA Questions! :333

Post by HotDog-Cart »

Hey guys. Question for ya'll.

I want to connect my 360 to a VGA monitor.

I know there are some 3rd party XBox 360 VGA cords, but people say they have bad ghosting. (Yet, I know its possible to mod one so it has better shielding.)

But would this be possible?

Hook HDMI cord up to 360, plug the other end of the HDMI cord into a HDMI to DVI adapter. Then plug DVI adapter into DVI to VGA adapter. Plug VGA into monitor monitor.

Would this be possible to do? Or would I need some type of converter box? (Since I'd be converting digital to analog.)

My monitor isnt widescreen and only has VGA in.

Buy the first party one. I know it's expensive, but it's worth it. You'll lose some quality in the digital to analog (DVI to VGA) conversion and there may be a lag (I don't know much about display conversion).

Second opinion anyone?

And, I've heard of people buying the $10 3rd party adapter for 360, and then wiring their own vga cord to it. (So its not a crappy cord anymore.). I just wanna see whats plausible, and if my idea with all the adapters would work. :P

I saw that, but wayy to complicated for me. I suck at soldering, and probably always will.

Your HDMI-DVI-VGA scheme will not work. The reason DVI-VGA adapters work is because DVI can carry both the digital signal and the analog one; the adapter takes the analog portion and outputs it as VGA. HDMI does not contain said analog signal, so that chain of adapters will not work. The specifics of what I said might be a bit off, but I know it won't work, and am too lazy to look up the particulars.

You would either need to connect using the VGA cable, or with some digital-analog converter box via the HDMI output, which just seems unnecessary and expensive, plus has potential for lag and other silliness.

Just buy a VGA cable (a well-shielded one if you are worried about interference).

Okay. I'll probably go with the $10 3rd party VGA cable. If it gets a lot of ghosting, then I'll have to cut its vga cord off, and use my own. Dont feel like spending $40+ for a cord.

I bought a 3rd party vga adapter, and it had a female vga port on it, so I couldn't use it with any of my monitors that all have female ports, unless I get a male to male vga extension.

that is because most older CRT monitors and some LCDs have the cable fully attached at one end, meaning the only way to connect anything is by it being a female connector, also I haven't found a case where you aren't supplied the the Male - Male cable with a purchased monitor.
