I'm wanting user some EL wire to spell out my username into the top cover of my PS3. Problem i can't think of right now (given i haven't looked real hard at my innards yet) is how to get power from the PSU to the EL wire.
anyone have any ideas?
also: i have a fatty PS3

Re: [PS3]EL Wire mod question.
I'm assuming you need only 5v? also which version of the ps3 (the end of the serial number, cech-----) the only real difference between fats is the position the psu connect, though newer phats only have 3 wires on the 5v connector as opposed to the 4 on the older
But you should be able to draw 5v straight from the psu as i believe it outputs 12v, 5v, IIRC, also you should be able to embed the EL wire under the actual top casing(the part that says Playstation 3) as that is semi transparent, could look really cool.

Re: [PS3]EL Wire mod question.
its a cechG01 i believe.
its a G i know that
and yea i think its gonna look pretty cool. tho i gotta replace my laser first lol.
i think i'm going to print out a reversed copy of my Username on a piece of like sticker paper put it on the inside cover and very carefully lightly dremel it out. not all the way through just enough to have a groove.
lay the wire and put some kind of adhesive to keep it in place

Re: [PS3]EL Wire mod question.
well in a cechg ps3 you will have plenty of room for the inverter(where the card reader slots would be in a 60gig),
the only problem is the thickness fo the wire, do you know the diameter of the stuff you have/are getting. as the outer cover is quite thin, will measure shortly, as well as test wheter anything can bee seen through it ( if you want is hidden while not turned on)

Re: [PS3]EL Wire mod question.
I believe its either 3mm or 5mm the wire not the cover.
and i'm not gonna embed it in the cover just lay a groove in the cover.
also
if you just have dim light behind the top cover it becomes almost completely transparent.
i think i'm gonna have to prolly remove some of the other plastic piece (the one under the top cover.)
