Lightest 360 controller

I want to make the lightest possible wireless 360 controller I possibly can and I don't care what I have to do to achieve that, like no rumble motors, a smaller battery, cutting it, soldering, bondo and painting it. Making it as light as the PS3 would be perfect, I have built many computers, softmodded a few xbox's and put in a 500 gig hdd, softmodded a ps2 with a 500 gig hdd, hard modded a gamecube, new cases on a few psp's (fat), took apart and painted a a lot of controllers over the years.

Now when it comes to voltage and mAh I'm a noob, I know 3volts is what it takes to power it and the higher mAh the longer the controller lasts but thats it. I would like to put the batteries where the rumble motors use to be. I don't need them to last more then a few hours (I play for 3 hours max a day). So my questions are:

Is 2 size N rechargeable the best option? (it fits)
Can I recharge N batteries with the charging cable?

If you're going for light, why have batteries? Why not just wire it?

N sized rechargeable batteries would probably only give about 1.2 volts each at a max charge, so they wouldn't last all that long, and they have a shorter life span.

A small 3.7v lipo or liion would probably be best. But I don't know if it can take 3.7v in. It most likely can since usb is 5v and normal wired ones use the usb on the 360.

Official wireless Xbox 360 controllers take 5v.(It says under the battery pack) I'm not sure about third party. Probably the same though.

The Wireless controllers run off 2.3v ~ 3.3v, the 5v is only from the PnC cable and isn't used to do anything really but let the controller know that it's plugged in, the 3.3v from the PnC cable is what powers the controller when it's plugged up.

Most rechargeable batteries are 1.2v, doesn't matter the size of them, and they are higher than that anyway, around 1.3v or so, same as with Alkaline batteries that are around 1.7v or so when new. A 3.7v battery could be used, it's not going to get over 3.3v or so after being charged up by the controller anyway.

Just pulling the Rumble motors and using some cheapo AA batteries will lighten it up quite a bit.

Changing the battery size will lighten it up as well, and with N cells give ya about 1/5 or so of the run time, plus you'll loose the ability to charge them via the PnC cable without modifying that up some as well or having it work differently, since the PnC packs aren't just a couple of rechargeable batteries in a plastic shell.

Thanks for the replies guys, thanks for your great thread RDC. I'm thinking about making a custom Lipo battery kit or modding the controller to fit those AA from the charger in the place were the rumble motors use to be like you told alpha prime to do. With the Lipo Kit I want to make, I would put the batteries where the motors use to be. I have a lipo charger already but do you know if I have to unplug the lipo batteries to charge them or can i charge them while they are still plugged into the controller?
