TV with built-in PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii.
I just started designing a project that would involve building a PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii into a 52" LCD TV. Is this a stupid idea?

Not if you want to do it I suppose. I've never seen a 52" CRT, so maybe rear projection? Would be odd trying to shove those console into an LCD or plasma. Be careful of capacitors as they can kill you though... :/

So I couldn't use a LCD TV from Best Buy or WalMart?

You'd probably have to build a replacement back case for it to house the extra electronics.
Why do you want to build them into the TV?

You might be better off building the three consoles into a single unit. Like Bic said, you'll have to build a whole new back because there (probably) won't be enough room in an LCD TV. A CRT would be more realistic, but it would be dangerous work. Plus, if you mess up and break the TV, you'll be out thousands of dollars.
Re: TV with built-in PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii.
Yea I would definitely have to modify the back of the TV. The reason... All three of those systems take up quite a bit of space. I think it would be kind of neat to have them built into a TV. It would be way less wires and what not, and I haven't seen anyone do it yet.
Limpport: I have thought about doing that as well! I have done some custom fiberglass molding so I wasn't too concerned about re-constructing the back of the TV, but your right, If I did mess up the TV I would be out some bucks; however, it would still be fun.

I would put the systems in their own box, and leave the TV itself untouched. I doubt building the systems into the back of the TV itself would be much smaller than a separate box.
I would line up all the systems on one side for drive and button access. Heck, you could probably just make a shelf behind the TV to put the systems on and not even have to take them apart (good for warranty and upgrading).

Thats true, I had also thought about that. I guess building them in just draws my attention cause its unique.

Plus an Lcd Tv and those systems will make a TON of heat. Not a good idea at all.

Well I don't see how it would be too much heat. It's not like a person would have all three systems running at the same time, that wouldn't make any sense. One system and the LCD running shouldn't be too much heat, I wouldn't think anyways.

The Xbox 360 and the PS3 are heat machines. I can't even have them in a closed closet running without them overheating. So yes having them in a TV will be a problem.taneralan wrote:Well I don't see how it would be too much heat. What I am saying is that they both won't be running at the same time, just one system and the TV. I understand that, if you were for some odd reason trying to play both games at the same time, they would overheat. You think one system and the LCD running would be too much heat?

Yes in a closed compartment, one system and the TV would be to much. You would need a fan pulling the hot air out.taneralan wrote:What I am saying is that they both won't be running at the same time, just one system and the TV. Okay. I had planned on figuring in some additional fans to help with heat issues. Thanks for the input!

I have seen that in motels/hotels in USA but NOT with PS3, xbox 360, etc., only classic games, and yes it would be neat if you can do thattaneralan wrote:It would be way less wires and what not, and I haven't seen anyone do it yet.
