Hook my ipod to a radio

Hey guys. I was downstairs in my basement soldering stuff today and I thought, "It would be really nice if I could have some music to listen too down here". In fact, I do have a radio/cassette player in my basement but it is next to impossible to get the station I want and we don't have any good cassettes. So I wanted to take a pair of headphones, cut off the speaker part, and hook the cable up to the radio somehow so I could plug in my Ipod and listen to some music. After about half an hour of staring at the circuit board and cutting my thumb on a metal wire, I realized I had no idea how to do this. So my question is, how could I wire up the headphone cord so I could listen to my Ipod through the speaker while still being able to control the volume and use the radio and cassette player if I wanted to? I would greatly appreciate some help on this thing.

A cassette adapter is probably the easiest method with the cleanest sound. Behind that would be an FM transmitter, but you'd either have to rig up a power source for it or spend a fortune on batteries.

You can wire the signal straight to the cassette's reader, google a bit to find more info. If you need help, take apart the radio and take some pictures.

Doesn't your radio have an Aux-In or something? If so, you can just plug a male-male speaker cord from the ipod into the aux in port on the radio. Or even use the ipod dock if you have one of the docks with a speaker output.

I would like to avoid spending any money if possible (because I'm a cheapskate! )

I couldn't resist it once I saw the video and I figured nobody would notice that I switched my avatar considering I've only posted a handful of times.

Ok so I wired the headphone jack up and it works! But it sounds terrible! The sound is very grainy and the bass notes can only be described as awful. anybody have any fixes?

I worked on it a bit and decided that I would try a resistor so i hooked up a 2k resistor and now it sounds great! Not like anyone cares!

Well it wasn't exactly just a little noise so it was necessary. The great thing about this mod is that I can hide my ipod in my pocket and balance the cassette player on my shoulder and walk around acting all cool
