NES - Powerglove

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

NES - Powerglove

Post by b_w_johan »

So i'm looking for more info on "The Powerglove"

I've found a possible sale closeby, but i'm not sure what to expect.

Does anyone have more details, how can i test if its working properly (i saw some AVGN clips proving it can't do anything except land an airplane wich is impossible otherwise) but, i thought there was something about the fingers, if you bend a finger it made contact, as well as there are some sensors on top of youre TV and some number-keypad something?

So who can help me out with more details what the glove is and should do and should be bundled with.
(also saw a few for sale without the recievers, is there any use for that? can i "build" a reciever, whats the technical idea behind those recievers??)

Hope you guys understand what i'm trying to ask(while reading it back its a kinda messy story, sorry about that. Hope the reply's make up the startpost  )

Thanks, Johan

Okee, pretty cool info though loads of followuplinks XD

but seriously to much (and kinda boring and its very late excuse) info :D

does someone have a very short list of things i should check/test before purchasing, and is it possible to recreate a reciever?

just the glove is way cheaper, and well if it is (possible/not to expensive) to recreate i kinda believe you on youre word and will check the glove itself for flaws and figure out howto make a reciever :D

so if there is someone in here who actually has a powerglove please give me some advice/info.

lol, thanks for youre reply, but ... i posted that same video in my second post here :D

I really need some more technical answers XD (thats what this topic is all about right?

so far i've read the thingy responses to thumb and index finger actions, and up/down/left/right movement (i think the movement is seen with the 3 boxes on youre TV (anyone who can confirm this?))

Since it's over, how about a link to the auction? We could see what it was missing.

The Powerglove has with it ultra-sonic boxes that sit on top of the TV and box that connects the powerglove to the boxes and decodes what the powerglove is doing and talks to the NES. IIRC, the box thing is directly connected to the ultrasonic boxes, but the powerglove plugs in via a separate connector. There are different powerglove sizes (child, adult, etc.), so that's probably why they have the powerglove on a removable connector. Besides that, you need a code book, which can be downloaded off the internet, to tell the powerglove (via the number pad on it) what mode to be in for games that don't support it directly.

It seems that there is some disagreements as to which side is which with the ultrasonics, I thought the boxes on the TVs were the emitters(look like speakers inside to me) and the powerglove had a pair of microphones, but in the talk page of wikipedia it says the opposite.

I've actually bid on several items on ebay.nl/ebay.com and marktplaats.nl, but most of them got to expensive.

had the most hope on this item.. since it included a ROB as wel :)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... TQ:US:1123" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Is the cable/reciever part for the powerglove there as well? or isn't that available either? (i can't seem to find in on the image)
yes it is there for the power glove, it was wound
up in the glove for easy storage.
and inmediatly after that
I was also
informed that I do not have the sensors for the TV
that makes the glove work. So I hoped that helped
ya out!! good luck!!
So any chance the speaker/microphone (whatever rests on youre TV) is possible to recreate? any specs on that?
If its possible to recreate and the parts aren't to expensive i'll start an active ebay/marktplaats.nl search again :)

Best of luck with that. I doubt you'll find the internal electronic schematics, as the people that took it apart during that time period had very little ways to network with people of similar interests, and the only people with Power Gloves now are collectors for the most part. On top of that, it's probably built on custom chips and/or chips that can no longer be sourced.

I might take mine apart, if I can find it, just to nail down what is doing what. However, it is at my parents house and I'm not exactly sure where it is, so it will likely be a while at best. I also don't recall visible screws being on most of the units, which would make it very difficult to take apart.

Okee thank you very much for your reply!

If you can find it and have time to check the insides out that would be really cool :)
