Psone screen question

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Psone screen question

Post by joeafro »

Okay so im sure im being a complete idiot but here goes.

I just recieved my project case and its a little smaller than i thought. The N64 mobo fits fine but the psone screen mobo is probably about 10mm to big.

I know there is a way to trim the top of the board with out too much trouble so off i go searching the forums. I see that the only way to cut the top is with a "LED mod thingy" and this is where im lost?

What is an LED mod thingy and why is it needed, what does it do?
Isnt the Psone screen backlit anyway?
Is there a way to trim the top of the screen mobo without the LED mod thingy, by rewiring or something?

Sorry for being a n00b and an advanced thank you for any help

you COULD rewire it, but LED modding is the way to go. the LED mod saves on energy which allows you to have longer battery life.

If you want to cut the top of the board off you need to led mod the sreen, this will save on battery power and will allow you to fit the sreen in a zn-45 or zn-40 case. If you dont want to do that you could frankencase the case so the screen is external.

I understand that LED mods will actually make the screen less bright. I have a nice battery so power isnt an issue, is there a way to cut the top off and wire to the traces, has this been done before? In effect just moving the top section out the way?

My case is smaller than a zn, i think i must be crazy

Every Led mod I have seen has been less bright then the original. And less uniform. :?

That is why everyone has to do the brightness mod, which then ruins the contrast IMO.
