Can I split the AV out signals for the Gamecube?

Includes PS2, Xbox 1, GameCube (but not the Phantom Game Console)

Can I split the AV out signals for the Gamecube?

Post by Tchay »

For the Gamecube...

Can I split the AV out signals to go through either my LCD screen or an actual TV?

As in I would leave the AV out plug in the portable and give someone the option to use the AV cord to play the GC on an actual TV?

Would the power consumption be ridiculously huge if the signal goes to the TV?

I know SS did this in his 11th N64 portable (commission).

thx,

Good question, I'm doing the same thing. I'd guess as long as your connections are good, you should be fine branching off. I think I read somewhere here that there is a resistor you need from the cable assembly - though I've not looked that far yet. If so, you'd need that resistor before the point where you branch the signal.

It shouldn't cause any more consumption, it's a modulated signal - the receiver (either your LCD or TV) has the circuits required to decode it and is looking for a range of tolerances.

When I get my sacrificial cube (supposed to get it this week from friend) to take apart I plan on at least looking at the signals, when I get to that point I'll grab some screenshots of the signal and post them.

If someone could confirm that's all there is to it?

Life of Brian posted about this, he noticed the LCD dimmed a good amount when outputting to the TV and LCD at the same time, maybe see what the signal it looks like when the LCD is off?

it just basically splits the video signal, which makes the lcd much dimmer(it needs a stronger signal while most tv's do not). To do this properly without killing your lcd in the process, put a video amp in to boost the composite signal. Then, if you need to(this could totally be wrong) put a diode in so the amp only gives out the boosted signal to the video out. (I hope I explained it well enough)

So, are you saying my LCD will actually get injured if I don't put in the amp??? I don't really mind having the LCD dim from the split, I just wanted to know if its possible. If it won't hurt anything then I will just leave the AV out plug as is...
