We're probably getting a PS3 as a family Christmas present. The only problem is our HDTV doesn't have any HDMI ports, and HDMI seems to be needed to support some of the features (upconverting protecting DVDs). There is a setting to switch between RGB and Y Pb / Cb Pr / Cr (I need YPbPr). Our TV can't take digital signals, YCbCr won't work. So would it be possible to use a HDMI to component cable (DX has a couple) to get YPbPr?
Any input?

If it's that $10 cable then no. "This cable only work for the device which output properties can be change to VGA or component Video" and "Please don't expect this cable to work in most situations". The PS3 has an A/V port that you can get a component cable for.
So, no watching Blu-Ray in 1080p for you (if your TV even supports that resolution). Even if you found a converter that was active in converting the signals, it'd need to spoof the HDCP signals and handle decryption to get the full output.

Ok, seeing that setting gave me a faint glimmer of hope, but HDCP probably would have shot it down anyway.
The HDTV is a 48", 3 CRT, rear projection. It handles 480i, 480p, and 1080i. I think it looks better playing a DVD at 480p than most LCDs I've seen playing HD content. The only problem is burn in, so games have to be played sparingly. Right below it in the basement we have a 36" standard def CRT. I plan on putting the PS3 downstairs and using the CRT for most of the gaming, and running component and optical audio up to the HDTV for blu ray and occasional gaming. I found out I can reset the video settings by holding the power button, so switching should only take a minute.

HDCP? Well, your best bet is an HDCP decrypter. The HDFury2 is a device that takes HDMI, decrypts the video, then spits it out via VGA.
