4.3" INDASH CAR LCD MONITOR DVD???????????

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

I've been trying to find a 4" LCD screen with no luck. BUT, this screen comes close. Unfortunately, this baby is a wopping 160 bucks (free shipping, woopdey doo).

- The power consumption confuses me a little:
"Output power: 80w x 4 channels"
- 4.3" LCD screen
- NTSC/PAL compatible
- 1152 x 234 pixels
- brightness, volume, etc
- 4 channels
- other unnecessary things

I just like the size to be honest  but is this screen even practical?

Are planning to use this for a portable?

1. there are bigger cheaper screens
2. it looks like there will be big components in there that will be difficult to shrink
3. Power will be a doozy
4. theres not a lot of info on it about the insides, so if you need help we wont be able to

The one you linked to looks cool, but why is it soooo expensive???

Hailrazer, I'll send you a PM.

Oh and I know there are bigger cheaper screens, but I need a 4" for the GC portable I am working on.

That doesn't look like power consumption to me, that's a speaker output. The things got an amp in it.

The resolution looks like crap, if that's around 4:3 then you'll have rectangular pixels, eewwwwww. Even if it's not 4:3, with that resolution it would have to be 2:5, which is obviously not standard.

I wouldn't pay $40 for the thing.

you wouldn't get it for 40

4:3 isn't bad resolution. I have another screen with 4:3 and it works for me. But to each their own.

It is a car headunit, meant to drive speakers and display video. That's where your speaker output comes from. The resolution is crazy because they sometimes multiply the horizontal resolution by RGB (3). Its really 384x234, pretty crappy for that size.
Overall, not a very good choice for a portable screen, but it could be a cheap alternative to name brand DVD headunits.

Okay, thanks for the info man!

Oh and to anyone reading this topic, not all car screens suck, but this one sure does apparently.

EDIT Just for the record, I'm an idiot. PS1 screens are 5" DIAGONALLY. The actual dimension of a PS1 screen are 4*3.25" which is totally what I was looking for..... :HUGE FACEPALM:

Wasn't dissing 4:3. I was saying that based on the resolution of the screen the pixels would not be square in 4:3, although now vskid has cleared that up.

Yeah i misunderstood your post the first time, but then I read over it again to see what you meant. Square is much better, I agree.
