They should make a movie about what we do here...

"They"? Why don't "we" do it. Let people record their own segments with whatever camera they have and then let someone compile the material. If this really goes big let's try to find people in different areas who have better cameras to get high quality footage where ever possible. In other words don't wait for someone else to do it, do it yourself instead. Isn't that what this community is about?
Just my 2 cents.

What about a documentary? From someone with movie making experience....
Ben....?
Ben....?
Re: They should make a movie about us
So if I were to interrupt this correctly. A video that talked about modding video game consoles and other electronics as a hobby/employment. While Ben's done quite a few interviews I agree it needs to be known how Ben's minions are doing as far as modding goes.
To start off the idea of a compilation is a good one, nitro2k01. We'd have more input, a wide variety of projects and styles to show off. The only draw back is that with such a project being able to maintain a consistency of camera shots and angles and video quality. Now again it's a cool and ambitious idea, just one that I'm not sure we're prepared for yet.
I'd say a simple pilot of this could be the MGC. It has many member from the forums, more every year, avid modders and some cool projects. Like Martallh's MultiTari (sp), Recarp's Atari video mod and CronoTriggerFan's portable Sega Genesis. Again it's a good way to test the waters, as the video would likely be a half hour and be able to touch with clarity on all points.
Plus that the MGC, Ben will likely have his camcorder, one of his many! I have one myself a MiniDV, and I'm sure one of other guys/gals that comes have a camcorder of their own to share. These are able to output DVD quality video and it's important to have your raw video be at the best quality.
I do like the idea, and I'm sure we can get Ben on-board to help,

Sure as hell is! Even the little short films out here can take as long as 8 months to finish editing, sometimes longer. When I get some more money guys, I will be up for anythingbenheck wrote:Making a movie is hard!
Re: They should make a movie about us
My thoughts since the first post were to get as much video and documentation from MGC as possible if anyone wants this to go down. People who bring portables, demonstrate, give back stories, and submit worklog photos for extra visual aids during the video would help a ton! I'm in full support of anything of that nature.Sparkfist wrote:I'd say a simple pilot of this could be the MGC. Have you ever attempted a documentary?benheck wrote:Making a movie is hard!
Re: They should make a movie about us
I'm guessing Ben's talking about the whole process of sampling, editing and then producing a whole video.
Yes there are differences, and a documentary would have less of the work required for it. Namely no need for suspense, atmosphere, music... (maybe), or other things like that. However I've dabbled in editing video a little bit and know that it can take you hours or days to do something that is only a few minutes in length. I'm sure Ben would, if there were ways for us to help him out in the editing of the video.
If Ben's too busy to do another project like this, then it would be a community project. Once again it would be more difficult to do it, but such a thing can be done. After all look at the groups that do the fun-sub of animes. It would require people with time, patience and ambition to get such a thing done. Cause of coarse something like this can be done. It's just how much work and time do you guys want to invest into it.

P.S. How useful is Windows Movie Maker as far as editing videos?

WMM is ok for things like youtube videos, but not great for long movies.
It usually f*cks up things while processing the movie for me.
I use Sony Vegas Pro and Adobe After Effects for my movie editing.
