Does anyone know how to make a wireless hotspot using a laptop and a cellphone?

Basically I can connect to the internet with my cellphone but I'd like to be able to turn the computers wifi into a hotspot so my iPod touch can connect.

Try going to "view available wireless networks" then "change the order of preferred networks" then "Add" a new network to the list, name it anything, and check off "this is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network".

It then might also be necessary to enable internet connection sharing.

What version of Windows / OS X are you running?

In Windows 7 (probably Vista too), there should be a way to bridge two connections together.

Windows XP SP3 on my eee pc 1000HE

Just tried the adhoc method which is what I think you're supposed to do and the iPod just says connecting when I start safari. It is seeing the signal. I'm wondering if my cell connection is just too slow?

Is your laptop connected to your phone through Bluetooth? Sounds like it's not bridging the two connections.

Try creating a network bridge. I don't know if it will work but it's worth a try.

If you want to see if your laptop and iPod Touch are communicating through WiFi, get one of these portable web servers running on your laptop (there are a couple under 10 MB), and see if a very basic "hello world" page will load oin Safari if you enter your laptop's IP address.
