PS2 Laptop Power
Hey,
I am making a PS2 Laptop and I was wondering if it was possible to connect a Laptop DVD drive, Laptop keyboard and battery to a PS2. I'm using a PS2 Slim and I want a sliding DVD drive, so is it possible to use a Laptop's one? That's All for now.
Thanks, Boneylad

No, it's not possible to use any of those except the battery.
However I believe you can use a PS2 phat drive on a slim.
Someone confirm me.

Re: PS2 Laptop Power
well if you softmod your ps2 and if you put a usb loader on it and buy a sata (or is it IDE) to usb converter you could actually use the laptop dvd drive with the ps2
Re: PS2 Laptop Power
I've wondered about tag teaming the DD as well.
More so for the gamecube but same principle. I could be wrong but I think it is possible in theory if you matchy patchy the hell out of it (with lense, speed, etc). But i think it would require some insane expertise if it was even possible. I've not seen Ben do it with any of his portables.

Hey,
Thanks for the replies. I have a couple more questions though, how many heatsinks/fans do you need for a PS2 (Laptop)? Also, can you buy a PS2 phat drive from any stores?
Thanks

Re: PS2 Laptop Power
Have you actually tried this? I've never heard of anyone doing this, and I doubt it'd work given the different protocols between a harddrive (which the hacks are designed to use) and a DVD drive.Steafan wrote:well if you softmod your ps2 and if you put a usb loader on it and buy a sata (or is it IDE) to usb converter you could actually use the laptop dvd drive with the ps2

I wouldn't trust a 1 post user over a 1000 post user, lol. Assume the only drives you can use are a slim and a phat drive, no, you can't get drives in stores, you'll need to buy one online if you need one or just buy another ps2 and steal it.

Hey,
I bought a PS2 slim today (FINALLY - it took ages to find one that was a slim
) and I looked at the cords and I wondered "Is it possible to use the TV plug thingos on a Computer monitor?". The plug things look like this. I was also wondering what the point of a keyboard is besides the extra USB port.
Thanks, Boneylad

after looking some more about the usb loader for the ps2 i discovered i uses an other file system so it probaly won't work.
Re: PS2 Laptop Power
If your monitor has composite in, then yes. Otherwise you need an external box (not easily made) to convert the signal to VGA or DVI.Boneylad wrote:Hey,

Look up 'ps2 memory card exploit'. Basically you just need memory card with a special save on it.Boneylad wrote:BTW, how do you softmod a PS2?

Post count isn't everything, and a poor judge of a person's intelligence. You've not even confirmed that you can swap the drive. Sometimes a newbie on a forum is just a recently joined expert (I've seen this happen on Arcade Controls), and many, many times the person with a very high post count just posts stupid stuff all the time. It's only a minor peer review system, and really only says that the person isn't ban worthy in the community.snowpenguin wrote:I wouldn't trust a 1 post user over a 1000 post user, lol. Re: PS2 Laptop Power
Thanks for al the replies, but I was still wondering about the power converter. In ben's article here, he conbines the xbox converter with the screen power board thing, so I was wondering If I could do that with my PS2 laptop, but have the electricity come to the Monitors electricity board first by desoldering the PS2 converters power in plug, and put the elctrical boards three prong plug whereit would usually be, and then have the two outmost power prongs wired to the PS2's old plug place. Is this possible?
Thanks,
