removing/replacing potentiometers

I have an xbox hipgear screenpad that I'm currently using to create my first portable. And as most of you should already know it has four MASSIVE potentiometers for the contrast, brightness, volume and color adjustments. How could I remove these beasts and either replace them with tact switches or just have them stuck at a certain value? They look fairly simple to rewire, so I could do that if all else fails, but I atleast want to get rid of the contrast and color knobs, and lock them at their highest setting.

First thing you'll need to do is remove them from the board. Remember where each one came from.

Now look at each pot, there should be a value printed on each one, this is the max setting. For the ones you want to max out, put a resistor of that value in there. Actually, not sure how you wire that part, someone ought to know.

For the ones you want to replace, just wire smaller pots of the same value in their places.

Test the max value of the pot with a multimeter and just replace them with a resistor with that value.

wow, so I removed the two potentiometers I wanted gone in preparation to apply the resistors. And just for giggles I tested it with the potentiometers gone and nothing else in their place, and it worked perfectly. The color and brightness are at the exact levels I wanted them, which is weird, but good. So problem solved.

Probably means the level you liked was 0 ohms so when you removed the pots there was no resistance.
