NTSC-J in australia

Hey everyone,
Im wanting to import some n64 games that never got released here in australia.
I think i have 2 options: A passport III+ or buying a ntsc console and doing the ntsc mod for it.
My question is that if i buy the ntsc console will i need to buy all thte cables and stuff? I already have a PAL n64 so could i just use its cables? And finally, how easy is it to make the ntsc console play ntsc-j games?

yes, you can buy a ntsc-u console and play japanese games on it. All you need to do is open the case and get to the cart slot area. then, get rid of the little posts on it, because they are the only things holding ntsc-j cartridges from fitting. After that, I'm pretty sure they are compatible.

my friend has heaps of japan consoles for sale (were in canberra), see how much your willing to pay for an ntsc u console (inc the xtra (trans national) shipping), and it might be worth it to buy one of him, pm me if your interested

to mod it youll need to buy a jap/us console board and use that or just the us buy 12 pin chip (cant remember whioch one) and exchange it/resolder/replace your pal one with that,
btw the guy selling jap consoles is asking 75$ so im not sure if your for that or not, if your handy with the soldering iron you can probably do it yourself or if your not you could just get the pieces (get the us chip from someone off here) and ill do it for like 10$

$75 sounds a bit steep being as theres only one or two games i really wanted to play :/
How much would the pin connectors cost? I might just buy a replacement n64 console only and get it soldered since im useless with a soldering iron and my n64 was my first console and stuff

P.S Got any Doraemon games in your jap bundle of games?

sorry have to update the trade thread i ended up taking all the games down to revolution cd
yeh i dont think youll need a pin connector just the US/jap chip, and just some tabs to chop off on the cartridge connecter

Well, i guess i could always just buy a NTSC or NTSC-J n64 console and then mod it.
Do you know if my cable from my PAL n64 will work on either?

The cables might work, but you'll need an NTSC TV (or ps1 screen or tv capture card for a computer).

Well, i can get a ntsc-j n64 console on ebay without the cables and stuff so...i might save up for a bit and then get one.

I'm almost positive that they're the same. If they're not, I can sell you an NTSC cable cheap.

Blaze, is your friend selling the consoles with or without cables?
If no cables can you ask him if australian PAL n64 cables will work?
If cables, how can i use them here?
And what would shipping be like to Sydney?

i talked to him and i reckon 75$ is steep so i feel more morally obliged to encourage you to chose other options first like passport plus or something, ill check up about the cables and let you know soon
